Kenosha Country Club traces its origins to 1896, when it was established as a golf club along the south lakeshore of Kenosha. In 1920, as the city grew, the club moved to its current site on the northeast side of Kenosha County, assembling roughly 175 acres from three former farms.
For the new course, the club brought in architect Donald J. Ross, who spent seven days in Kenosha in September 1920 while lodging at The Elks Club, a building since restored under the name The Stella. Ross returned in March 1921 with Walter Hatch to stake out the holes and greens, and construction was supervised by William West, a foreman for Ross and Hatch. A clubhouse was built alongside the course, and the club opened at its new home in April 1922.
The Ross-designed championship layout remains the centerpiece of the private club, which has worked in recent years to preserve and restore elements of its original architecture.
