Bear Creek Golf Course
About Bear Creek Golf Course
Bear Creek Golf Course sits in the Methow Valley between Twisp and Winthrop, on the former Ortell cattle ranch at the base of Studhorse Mountain. Herman Court, a former Seattle firefighter, bought the 480-acre property in 1948 and began building golf holes in 1965, starting with a rough three-hole layout that players circled three times. By 1969 it had grown into a regulation-length nine. Court handed the course to his son Ashley in 1982; it was sold in 2007 and bought back by Ash and Linda Court in 2012.

The nine-hole layout plays 6,271 yards over two circuits. A creek runs down the left side of the 8th, where a bunker awaits longer drives, and continues along the 9th, which is tree-lined on the right. A pond sits beside the 2nd green.
The course is managed with environmental stewardship in mind, with fertilizer and other chemical applications limited to the putting greens.
