About Allenmore Golf Course
Allenmore Golf Course in Tacoma traces its origins to 1930, when businessmen Sam Allen and William J. Dinsmore formed a corporation to build a course on a 206-acre parcel Allen owned at South 19th and Cedar Street. The two partners' surnames were combined to name the property. Construction began on July 12, 1930, with Pacific Northwest golf professional Ray Ball serving as architect. The corporation was later dissolved and Allen continued the project on his own.

Water was found on site, and the builders installed a pumping system capable of delivering 18,000 gallons per hour along with a three-million-gallon reservoir to the right of the 15th fairway, fed by roughly twelve miles of pipe. Thousands of trees were planted across what were then bare hills and hollows and have since matured, shaping the character of the public layout.
The course opened for play on August 14, 1931, with Tacoma Mayor Melvin G. Tennant among the first foursome to tee off.
