Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood plays through hundreds of mature oaks that frame the fairways, making the driver an optional choice on many tees. The layout favors strategy over power, with doglegs that ask for shaped shots, greens that run firm and fast, and a seventh hole that climbs straight uphill into the slope.
Private for its first 46 years, the course is now open to public play. The pro shop stocks TRUE linkswear, a brand founded in the Pacific Northwest, with the course itself serving as the testing ground.
The clubhouse keeps the day going after the eighteenth with craft cocktails, local beer and a full kitchen.
