About Newport Country Club
Newport Country Club traces its present site to 1930, when the club acquired land off Mt. Vernon Street in Newport, trading its old course plus $3,000 for the property. Over the winter of 1930-31, the clubhouse was hauled from Derby to the Newport site overlooking Lake Memphremagog using horses, rollers and a great deal of labor — a move that took the entire season. Leon Myers was the club's first champion in 1922, and also the last champion on the original course and the first on the new one.

The club expanded to 18 holes in 1968, with the architectural firm of Howard Watson of La Chute, Quebec, as primary designer and Bradford Caldwell of Shelburne, Vermont, reviewing the plans. A new clubhouse followed in 1991.
The layout runs roughly 6,500 yards over rolling fairways with approachable greens, and is routed to take in views of South Bay, Jay Peak and Lake Memphremagog toward Owl's Head and Canada.
