About Royal New Kent Golf Club
Royal New Kent was designed by Mike Strantz as his third solo project. Strantz, who worked as Tom Fazio's chief shaper and on-site designer before striking out on his own, completed only seven courses individually before his death from cancer in 2005 at the age of 50.
The layout was promoted as an inland links and conceived as a tribute to Royal County Down and Ballybunion, two courses Strantz admired. The result carries links features such as deep bunkering, dunes and fescue, but sets them within a hilly, tree-lined Virginia landscape. Like the rest of Strantz's small body of work, the course is known for its distinctive and memorable character.
