About The Foundry Golf Club

The Foundry Golf Club sits in Powhatan County, Virginia, on land with a long history: once inhabited by the Monacan Indians and later settled by French Huguenots seeking religious refuge in the 1700s. The club takes its name from a granite arms factory commissioned in 1816. The musket foundry was never finished, but its three-foot-thick stone walls survived, later housing artist Julien Binford's home and studio before becoming the centerpiece of the club. The property is also where General Robert E. Lee is said to have spent his last night as a Confederate commander, camped on the lawn of the Gilliam residence after the surrender at Appomattox.

In the late 1980s, J.K. Timmons and a group of Richmond businessmen set out to build a golf-only club, working with architect R.F. Loving, Jr. Cut from a 1,500-acre timber tract along Fine Creek, the course follows the rolling terrain and native vegetation.
