About Holston Hills Golf Course
Holston Hills Country Club began in 1946 as a nine-hole course in Marion, Virginia. The original routing mixed holes now found on both nines; the current holes 2-6 and 12-16 did not yet exist. What is now the practice green near the entrance bridge served as the fifth green, played as a short par 4, and the old second was a downhill par 3 that carried the Holston River to the green used today as the 10th.

In the late 1960s, Wytheville engineer and area golfer Harold Louthen expanded the layout to 18 holes, chiefly by adding holes 2-6 and 12-16. Several original holes were renumbered, with the old fifth reworked into the present 18th and a new 10th routed to the former second green. The redesigned course opened in 1969.
Through the following decades the club supported golf, tennis and swimming, along with a grill room and ballroom. The clubhouse was first renovated in the early 1970s and rebuilt to its current form in 1999.
