Somerset Farms Golf Course sits in eastern Orange County, Virginia, on the grounds of the historic Somerset Farm along the Rapidan River, with the Blue Ridge Mountains visible to the north. The property lies off Route 3, about 16 miles west of Fredericksburg and within roughly an hour of both Washington, D.C., and Richmond. Its manor house dates to 1834, built by James S. Somerville, and sheltered pickets of Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War.

The semi-private/public course runs more than 6,500 yards through gently rolling woodlands and wetlands, mixing traditional and links-style holes. Architect Jerry Slack, based in Tulsa, routed the layout around the site's natural terrain and preserved its wetlands. A slope rating of 138 makes it a demanding test, while four sets of tees accommodate a range of abilities.
