Beacon Hill Golf Club occupies land in Leesburg with a layout originally designed by Johnny Miller. The course has recently been renovated and reopened for play, and the club is accepting membership applications.
The property traces its history to 1946, when Arthur Godfrey and his wife, Mary Bourke, bought Beacon Hill, then a 326-acre farm. Godfrey was a widely known radio and television personality through the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, and commuted weekly from Leesburg to New York City by air, flying first a Beechcraft and later a DC-3. His original airstrip sat just east of the town's edge, and after complaints about aircraft noise he sold that land and put the proceeds toward the Sycolin Road site now occupied by Leesburg Executive Airport.

The club's identity draws on the surrounding neighborhood, where streets carry the names of Kentucky Derby winners such as Winning Colors and Bold Venture, a nod to Loudoun County's equestrian tradition; an equestrian center stands nearby.
