Kinderton Country Club traces its origins to 1947, when Charlie Robbins, owner of Clarksville's Colonial Mills, commissioned Donald Ross to lay out a course for his employees. Ross routed all 18 holes, but only the front nine was built at the time. Dick Wilson designed and constructed the back nine in the 1950s, also moving the first tee and rebuilding the fifth green in a new location.
The greens were first planted in common bermuda grass, and many still sit on their original clay base. In 2011 the bentgrass putting surfaces were converted to MiniVerde ultradwarf bermudagrass, a project that also brought an automated irrigation system in place of the original hand-operated setup, improving conditions through the fairways as well.
Ownership passed from Robbins to Burlington Industries with the sale of Colonial Mills. A swimming pool was added in the early 1960s and tennis courts late in that decade. In 2001 Burlington sold the club to members through a stock purchase.
