Lonesome Pine Country Club
About Lonesome Pine Country Club
Lonesome Pine Country Club is a private club in Big Stone Gap, founded in 1924 by area residents who wanted a country club serving Southwest Virginia, Eastern Kentucky and Northeast Tennessee.
The course opened as nine holes and remained so until 1967, when a back nine was added to bring it to 18 holes. Ten of the club's 19 putting greens were rebuilt to USGA specifications with sand-based construction in 1987, a wall-to-wall irrigation system followed in 1998, and the fairways were sprigged in Brute bermudagrass in 2000.
The original log clubhouse was destroyed by fire in 1975 and replaced with a modern building housing locker rooms, a dining room, a snack bar, a golf shop and bag storage.
