San Angelo Country Club
About San Angelo Country Club
San Angelo Country Club dates to 1920, when Bernie Alexander, Dwight Hunter, and C.C. McBurnett acquired a property overlooking the Concho River. The club was formally founded the following year, and Alexander laid out the original nine holes.
As the city expanded during the oil boom years of the 1920s, the club grew with it. In 1927, Texas architect John Bredemus was brought in to extend the course to 18 holes and rework the existing holes, establishing the layout that members have played ever since.
The first clubhouse, known as "La Casa Grande," became a social hub in San Angelo, with dining rooms, a ballroom, locker rooms, and a veranda looking out over the river.
