About Wilderness Golf Course
Wilderness Golf Course sits in Lake Jackson, Texas, on land with a long municipal history. In 1976 the city acquired the 480-acre Wilderness Park for $600,000, roughly $1,244.81 per acre, and early plans floated the possibility of a nine-hole public course on the site. That nine-hole concept was ultimately not carried forward for the park.
Local interest in public golf persisted. A 1982 recreation survey of area residents, compiled by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service as part of the Brazosport Recreation Review, found that Lake Jackson citizens ranked a public golf course as their fifth-highest recreational priority.

In the mid-1980s, Dow Chemical announced the Plantation Village Subdivision on the grounds of the former airport property, with preliminary plans that included an 18-hole golf course.
