About Westwood Golf Club
Westwood Golf Club traces its origins to 1928, when it opened as Westwood Country Club, founded by thirty Houston families to support a private club devoted to outdoor life. It remains the second oldest private golf club in Houston still occupying its original grounds.
The first layout was a nine-hole course, par 36 with two sets of tees, drawn up by Texas professional and architect John Bredemus. Measuring 3,310 yards from the back and 2,979 from the forward markers, it asked for accurate drives through stands of native hardwoods and tight approaches to heavily bunkered greens. Among its notable holes were a 600-yard par 5 with a narrow fairway bordered by out of bounds, and a 150-yard par 3 played into the prevailing wind, guarded by bunkers, water right and trees left.

In 1957 Ralph Plummer, once an assistant to Bredemus, reworked the original nine and added a second nine that carried the course across the former path of Braes Bayou, keeping the rolling terrain and tree-lined fairways of the earlier design. A classically styled clubhouse was introduced in the same period.
