About BraeBurn Country Club
BraeBurn Country Club traces its origins to the work of John Bredemus, Texas's first resident golf course architect and a figure often described as the father of golf in the state. Bredemus also left his mark on The Lido Club and Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, and over his career he collaborated with architects including C.B. Macdonald, Seth Raynor, Alister MacKenzie, Perry Maxwell and Ralph Plummer.

His approach was deliberately minimalist, moving as little earth as possible and letting existing ground shape the holes. Harvey Penick recalled Bredemus teaching him that designing a course calls for an artist's eye while building one calls for an engineer's skill, and that Bredemus possessed both.
The club also has a connection to Jimmy Demaret, who first encountered Bredemus's work in 1926 while employed during construction at Colonial Country Club, and who became head professional at BraeBurn in February 1936.
