About Firewheel Golf Park Bridges Course

Firewheel Golf Park sits on land in north Garland that was once overgrown farmland. City planners surveyed the site in 1981 hoping to encourage development in a quiet corner of town, and found fields of pink and yellow native firewheel wildflowers — the bloom that gave the municipal complex its name.

The Old Course opened in 1983 and drew enough play that the city added the Lakes Course in 1987. Over time Firewheel grew into the largest golf complex in Texas and one of the largest in the United States, with the Bridges Course among its layouts, while homes and highways filled in the surrounding area.
