About River Bend Resort & Golf Club
River Bend Golf Course in Brownsville, Texas, began as part of a water-management plan for the region. The land was originally held by Rancho Viejo developer Ted Trap, who purchased it to link Rancho Viejo to a raw water source drawn from the Rio Grande.
Development of the golf course started in 1983 under Lou Falley, George Ketzenberg and John Berryman, who opened it as a nine-hole layout. Two years later, in 1985, the course was expanded to 18 holes as a championship layout, broadening its appeal in the Rio Grande Valley.
