Riverside Golf Course occupies ground with deep roots in Austin golf history. The layout was built by architect Perry Maxwell as the second home of Austin Country Club and opened for play in 1949. Maxwell is also known for his work at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa and Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, and he collaborated with Alister MacKenzie from the mid-1920s until MacKenzie's death in 1934.
The course is remembered as the place where Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite developed their games under the instruction of Harvey Penick. Its fairways are framed by mature oaks, pecans and maples, giving the property a settled, historic character.
