About Shady Valley Country Club
Shady Valley Country Club is a private club in Arlington, Texas, founded in 1959 by Howard Wilemon Jr. Before the 18-hole course existed, the land was held by Wilemon together with his father, Howard Wilemon Sr., and Joe Delk. At the time the property sat outside the city limits, and because much of it lay within the flood plain its uses were limited. When his father proved unenthusiastic about a golf course, Wilemon Jr. purchased the remaining land from him and Delk.

Wilemon Jr. then took on the design of the course himself. Once the routing was settled, PGA professional Shanty Hogan, who had a background in golf course work, was brought in to lay out the tees and greens and supervise construction. Hogan remained at Shady Valley as the club's golf professional until he retired in 1978.
