The Course at Sewanee
About The Course at Sewanee
The Course at Sewanee is a nine-hole layout on Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau. Architect Gil Hanse retained the original routing while rebuilding nearly every other element of the course, including all nine green complexes, repositioned bunkering and a separate set of alternate tees, with attention to the plateau's fragile ecosystem. A bunker renovation completed in 2026 built further on that work, refining playability, appearance and strategy.

The fifth hole, known as The Edge, plays from a reshaped tee and reflects the design approach Hanse also brought to the 2016 Olympic course in Rio de Janeiro and to his reworking of the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral.
The Sewanee Inn and an adjacent golf lodge sit alongside the course, accommodating golfers and visitors drawn to the scenery of the Plateau.
