About Hillwood Country Club
Hillwood Country Club is a private club in West Nashville that has served members and their families for more than seven decades. Spread across two campuses, it combines golf with tennis and pickleball facilities, aquatics, fitness and wellness, several dining options, and a year-round program of social and recreational activities.
The club was founded by a small group of young men who wanted a family-oriented setting for golf, dining and swimming. It was first called Shawnee Country Club, a nod to the Shawnee people who once lived in the region, and was renamed shortly afterward for Horace G. Hill, who donated 15 acres of his estate toward its creation. A 12,000-square-foot clubhouse opened in April 1955 for 400 charter members.

The golf course was finished in 1957, designed by architect Dick Wilson and completed by Bruce Crabtree and Bubber Johnson. Bruce Hepner of Renaissance Golf Design led renovations in 2003, 2011 and 2024.
