About Spearfish Canyon Golf Club
Spearfish Canyon Golf Club sits in the Northern Black Hills, with views of the surrounding terrain and the nearby Spearfish Canyon to the south of the property forming a scenic backdrop. Founded in 1921 as the Spearfish Canyon Holding Company, the club opened its original nine soon after, making it one of the oldest golf courses in South Dakota. In 1988 it expanded to become the first 18-hole layout in the Northern Black Hills.

The club is a family-oriented, semi-private facility. In recent years it has worked on reshaping the original nine holes and building out a full practice facility. Phelps Atkinson Golf Course Design, working with club staff, prepared a Masterplan Phase 1 concept in early 2018; the membership approved the design, funding and timeline that autumn, and earthmoving followed.
