About Split Rock Country Club
Golf in Ipswich dates to around 1920, when local enthusiasts formed a club and leased pasture land on the west side of town, just south of Highway 12. That first layout had nine holes with sand greens.
The ground the course occupies was later donated to the city by Mrs. John B. Taylor, and the course was named in her family's honor as the John B. Taylor Memorial Golf Course. A core group of roughly two dozen dedicated players sustained the game in Ipswich through the early decades, and a clubhouse was added in 1968, funded with an FMHA loan.
