Tomahawk Country Club Inc.

Tomahawk Country Club dates to the late 1930s, built toward the end of the Great Depression, and was among the earliest designs of architect Lawrence Hughes, whose later work included Orange Tree Golf Resort in Scottsdale, Desert Inn Golf Club in Las Vegas and Paradise Valley Country Club in Arizona. Hughes, who died in 1975, was a widely respected designer of his era.

The layout has changed little across roughly seven decades, aside from a handful of added tee boxes and the loss of some trees. Course lore holds that a member frustrated by a persistent slice once took a chainsaw to trees that had troubled him, widening several fairways. The effect is clearest on the par-4 second hole, where a wooded hillside once stood and only a bare slope with recently planted young trees remains.
