Sergeant Jasper Golf Club dates to the late 1960s, when it opened in Ridgeland as a private 18-hole country club that drew notable players, including Jack Nicklaus. As membership declined over the decades, the layout was reduced to nine holes, and by 2020 the course, known locally as "The Sarge," faced closure.
The Congaree Foundation, an organization devoted to supporting young people through golf, purchased the course in 2021. With backing from the Jasper County community, Congaree Ambassadors and PGA TOUR professionals, the foundation has been working to restore the course as a place to play for both experienced golfers and newcomers of all ages.
