About Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
Caledonia Golf and Fish Club opened to the public in January 1994 as the first solo design of golf course architect Mike Strantz, who approached course building as an artist rather than an engineer. His 18 holes feature large, contoured greens defended in places by ponds, streams and deep bunkers, while live oaks frame many of the shots and lend the layout a rustic character. Annual and semiannual flowers bloom across the property each year.

The site takes its name from Dr. Robert Nesbit, a Scotsman who used the Roman name for his homeland; he was connected to the property through his 1797 marriage to Elizabeth Pawley, whose family name survives in Pawleys Island. County records show Caledonia was once among the area's largest rice plantations, reaching from the Atlantic to the Waccamaw River. The plantation house burned in 1931, and Nesbit descendants held the land until 1940. An avenue of live oaks leads to the clubhouse steps.
