Pine Lakes Country Club holds the distinction of being Myrtle Beach's first golf course, opening in 1927 as Ocean Forest Country Club. It endured the Great Depression and took its current name in 1946, helping launch the region's rise as a golf destination.
The layout was designed by Robert White, a native of St. Andrews, Scotland, and the first president of the PGA of America, and its original character has been largely preserved — especially across a back nine that moves over notably rolling ground. Set less than half a mile from the Atlantic, the par-70 course plays beneath the beachfront skyline and is known particularly for its par 4s.
The club's history is also reflected in its clubhouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and Pine Lakes serves as home to the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame.
