About Green Valley Country Club
Green Valley Country Club is an 18-hole semi-private course in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, open to public play in the Newport area.
The club was founded in 1957 by Manuel "Manny" Raposa, who designed the layout and oversaw its construction, maintenance and ownership for more than four decades, filling nearly every role on the property himself. It opened that year as a short nine-hole course. After additional land was acquired, the back nine followed in 1966, with most holes lined by trees on both sides, bringing the course to roughly 6,300 yards.

Raposa continued expanding over the next 14 years, lengthening and redesigning the front nine by more than 300 yards and reducing par by one stroke to arrive at the present layout, which reopened in 1980. The course can stretch to about 6,900 yards, with greens averaging more than 5,000 square feet, fairway bunkers, forward tees and an irrigation system.
