Jamestown Golf Course

Jamestown Golf Course is a nine-hole public course on Conanicut Island in Narragansett Bay, a short drive from Newport. The links-inspired layout is open and exposed to the wind, with rolling fairways and generous landing areas, while the greens ask for careful reading and a steady putting stroke.

The course traces its roots to the earliest years of golf in New England, beginning as a simple nine holes laid out in a cow pasture near the Dumplings and known at the time as the Conanicut Golf Club. Accounts place its construction in 1895, with the course established by 1901, and it is often cited as one of the oldest public courses in the country. The layout and buildings have changed over the decades, and the present clubhouse on Conanicus Avenue dates to 1951.
