Valley Country Club

Valley Country Club traces its origins to 1906, when five businessmen from the Hazleton area incorporated an organization known as the Hazleton Country Club, giving the club a history in Northeast Pennsylvania that now spans more than a century.

The founding organization was created to promote social recreation and to encourage interest in outdoor pursuits of the era, including cycling, horse riding, driving, tennis and golf. Its first board was made up of nine directors, with William C. Gayley serving as president, I. P. Pardee as vice president, John R. Sharpless as secretary and William Lauderbach as treasurer. Early membership was organized into senior, junior and non-resident categories, with senior members drawn from stockholders over the age of 21 and non-resident status extended to those living outside the Middle Coal Field of Pennsylvania.
