About Pocono Manor Golf Course
Pocono Manor Golf Course traces its roots to 1901, when a group of Philadelphia Quakers bought a tract on Little Pocono Mountain for a summer retreat. Construction of the Pocono Manor Inn, nicknamed "The Grand Lady of the Mountains," began in the spring of 1902.
The course is the work of two golden-age architects. In 1911 Donald Ross drew plans for the original nine holes, laid out for cottage residents and Inn guests. Ross typically worked from topographic maps sent to his home in Pinehurst, North Carolina, leaving construction to associates such as J.B. McGovern, who operated from a satellite office in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Without modern earth-moving machinery, the holes were routed over the existing terrain, with tees often set on higher ground.

In the early 1920s William Flynn added ten more holes across Route 314 from the original loop, running from the downhill par-three 7th through the 16th.
