The Abington Club occupies an 80-acre property in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, a short distance from the borough center, and is a family-owned and operated business.
Its origins date to 1909, when a group of men from the Jenkintown area bought 67 acres from the Abington Friends Meeting and established the Old York Road Country Club. A design contest for a nine-hole layout was held in 1910 and won by Mr. Lang, a golf professional from Huntingdon Valley. With another 35 acres leased, an 18-hole course opened for play in 1913.
In 1962, the trustees of Abington Friends Meeting asked the club to relocate in order to support the growing school, and the original 18 holes were divided, with the surviving nine holes becoming Foxcroft Country Club. In 1979, a group led by Ron Jaworski of the Philadelphia Eagles acquired the lease from the Abington Friends and formed The Abington Club.
