Founded in 1882, The Forest Lake Club is a private, member-owned club and residential community in Hawley, Pennsylvania, roughly 100 miles from Manhattan and 150 miles from Philadelphia. It was organized by a group of New York City professionals seeking a wilderness retreat their families could reach easily by train, with the character of the Adirondacks but within a few hours of the city.
The founders' emphasis on preserving the surrounding woodlands and on conservation continues to shape the property, which supports fishing, hunting and hiking. The clubhouse lobby displays historic photographs, plaques and trophies documenting generations of club athletics and fishing competitions.
Membership includes families who live nearby and visit on weekends and vacations, as well as others who have made the club their year-round home.
