Macoby Run Golf Course

Macoby Run Golf Course sits in upper Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, on land that was once a working farm of crops and cattle.

The property came into the Hersh family in 1919, and was owned and operated by Floyd Hersh and his relatives. In 1964, with farming becoming a harder way to support a family, Hersh turned to the construction industry and kept farming as a pastime. Golf was another of his quieter interests, pursued at a time when the game was still seen as a pursuit of the well-to-do. Traveling the surrounding counties to inspect land during the 1960s, he watched nearby farms give way to fairways, an idea he would act on himself roughly three decades later, converting the family ground into the golf course that stands today.
