About Whitford Country Club
Whitford Country Club traces its origins to 1955, when about sixty area residents met in a barn along Route 30 to discuss setting aside 168 acres for a shared recreational club. The property, bought from Wycoff Smith, came with a farmhouse and a barn that were later converted into clubhouses, and a Board of Governors was elected in May of that year. The club took its name from nearby Whitford Village, itself named for a town in Wales. Before golf arrived, the land was used for fox hunting and hosted the annual Whiteland Hunt.

The first nine holes came into play in 1956, with the second nine following in 1957. The facility, including the golf course, swimming pool and tennis courts, formally opened on Memorial Day 1957. The course was designed by architect William Gordon, known for his work on playing surfaces for greens, tees and fairways. It sits in the heart of Chester County and accommodates golfers of varying ability.
