Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville plays to roughly 5,800 yards, a length that puts the emphasis on strategy and shot placement rather than power. The layout works through scenic surroundings in Western Pennsylvania, with each hole presenting its own strategic questions.
The club's history reaches back to 1926, when the land that now forms the back nine belonged to the Sam Henderson family. Henderson wanted to share the game with the surrounding community, and a meeting at the local YMCA in April of that year led to the founding of the Brookville Tennis and Golf Club, with Frank Leathers as its first president.
In 1962, after her husband's death, Mrs. Henderson deeded 75 acres in Union Township to Pinecrest, allowing the club to build an additional nine holes and reach its present form.
