About Oxford Country Club
Oxford Country Club traces its origins to the early 1930s, when a group of Oxford businessmen and golf enthusiasts — among them E.E. Powell, C.L. Hesterberg, W.C. McSherry, Edgar E. Brandon and George L. Rider — laid out a course on roughly 60 acres they owned along Contreras Road, less than a mile west of uptown Oxford, Ohio. They incorporated a private club, the Oxford Golf Club, Inc., and the land was transferred to it in 1935.

In 1934 the Oxford Golf Club worked with the Oxford Kiwanis Club to help bring a municipal swimming pool to the Village of Oxford. Named Roosevelt Park, the pool and its snack shop were built as a WPA project on 1.6 acres beside Contreras Road, east of the present parking lot.
The club disbanded during World War II and was reorganized afterward, incorporating as the Oxford Country Club on January 17, 1949, with Joseph P. Wespiser serving as its first board president.
