The Fairways at Twin Lakes
About The Fairways at Twin Lakes
The Fairways at Twin Lakes opened in 1923 as Twin Lakes Country Club. The layout was designed by Sandy Alves, who worked as a golf course construction manager for architect Donald Ross.
Alves came to Ross's attention through that work and was recommended to Shaker Heights Country Club, where he supervised construction of its Ross course and then served as the club's first golf professional. In 1920 he and Ross collaborated on Acacia Country Club, built for the Masons of Cleveland, and Alves stayed on as Acacia's professional until his death in 1939. During those years he designed several other courses in the region, among them the two layouts at Highland Park in Cleveland, Ridgewood Golf Course in Parma, Madison Country Club, Highland Meadows Country Club in Toledo, and French Lick Resort in Indiana.
