About Congress Lake Club
Congress Lake Club traces its origins to 1892, when it was organized as the Canton Outing Club, and was incorporated four years later. William McKinley, then governor of Ohio and soon to become President of the United States, served on its board of directors.
Four golfing grounds were laid out on the property over time, two of them designed by Willie Park Jr. and Donald Ross, architects whose other work includes Maidstone Club, Pinehurst, Oak Hill and Seminole.
The club's original clubhouse, designed by architect Guy Tilden, opened in 1919 and overlooks a 200-acre kettle lake. That same year the lake hosted a world championship bass fishing competition.
