About Fairfield South Trace Golf Course
Fairfield Greens South Trace opened in 1969 as Pleasant Run Country Club, taking its name from the Pleasant Run Farms subdivision across the street. The golf course and country club served as the centerpiece of that residential development, which was showcased as a Homearama community the same year. The layout came from architect Jack Kidwell, who designed a number of other courses in the region.
Early photographs show that the neighborhood's tennis courts once stood in the parking area behind the seventh green, while the community swimming pool occupied what is now the South Trace parking lot below the clubhouse.

The club ran into financial trouble in its first decade, and in late 1978 the City of Fairfield, led by Mayor Bugs Phalen, arranged to buy the property. It reopened under municipal ownership in 1979 as the Fairfield Golf Club.
