Skene Valley Country Club
About Skene Valley Country Club
Skene Valley Country Club occupies land in Whitehall that owner Cliff Sparks farmed from 1960 to 1965, raising cows before deciding the operation wasn't paying its way. He sold the herd and much of the equipment and began building a golf course in 1966, working nights at General Electric while converting the fields into fairways and the barn into a clubhouse during the day. Mark Cassidy Sr., formerly of the Queensbury Golf Course in Lake George, helped design the 18-hole layout, though he died before the back nine was finished.

The club also carries an unusual piece of local lore. In 1975, Sparks reported seeing a tall, hair-covered, man-like figure with large red eyes on the first hole, watching it before it crashed off into the woods. He added a Bigfoot image to the club's logo afterward, and other golfers have since claimed glimpses of the creature.
