The Tuxedo Club - Golf Clubhouse

The Tuxedo Club's origins lie in an ambitious construction effort that transformed the surrounding park. Some 1,800 workers were brought in and housed in a temporary village of shanties laid out along streets given names borrowed from New York City, including Fifth Avenue, Broadway and Corso, with a mess-hall nicknamed after a fashionable Manhattan restaurant of the era.

Using only the basic tools of the time, that workforce completed thirty miles of graded dirt and macadam roads, along with a water and sewage system described as the first complete one in the world. Their work also produced the park gatehouse and police station, twenty-two cottages, two blocks of stores, village stables, a dam, an icehouse, a swimming tank and a hatchery.
