National Golf Links of America
About National Golf Links of America
National Golf Links of America was founded in 1908 under the direction of Charles Blair Macdonald, with construction carried out with the help of Southampton engineer Seth Raynor. Macdonald studied numerous courses in Scotland and England before setting out to build an American course that gathered together the strongest characteristics of golf in the British Isles.
Several of its holes are adaptations of celebrated originals abroad, including the Road Hole and Eden from St. Andrews, the Alps from Prestwick, the Redan from North Berwick and the Sahara from Sandwich. Those template designs have long drawn golf architects to the property to study its enduring features.
