About Schenectady Municipal Golf Course
Schenectady Municipal Golf Course opened in 1935, designed by Arthur F. Knight — a General Electric electrical engineer and inventor of the "Schenectady Putter" — along with Jim Thompson, a professional at Mohawk Golf Club. Construction was largely funded by the Federal Emergency Relief Administration and the Civil Works Administration, both forerunners of the Works Progress Administration. It was built at a time when golf was expanding rapidly, with the aim of opening the game to players of any economic or cultural background.

The 18-hole municipal layout measures about 6,600 yards and is characterized by tight fairways framed by grasses and native vegetation, with fast, undulating greens. Known locally as "Muni," it was one of many municipal courses built across the United States during the 1930s and has since passed its 90th anniversary, still drawing golfers of all ages.
