About Mohawk Golf Club
Mohawk Golf Club in Schenectady has been part of golf in New York's Capital Region for well over a century. Its origins trace to 1896, when S. Dana Greene organized the Schenectady Golf Club, later becoming a charter member at Mohawk. That original layout, called the Iroquois Course, was a nine-hole course of about 2,800 yards set on roughly 40 acres near the corner of Nott Street and Rosa Road.
In the same era, Rudolph Romeling, another future Mohawk charter member, took part in founding the College Hill Golf Club, a nine-hole course laid out on Union College land. The eventual merger of the Schenectady Golf Club and the College Hill Golf Club created Mohawk Golf Club and marked the formal start of the club's history.
