Nissequogue Golf Club

Nissequogue Golf Club was established in 1966 by a small group of investors on more than 120 acres in Saint James that had previously belonged to William J. Ryan, owner and publisher of the magazine "Literary Digest" in the 1930s and 1940s. The clubhouse began life in 1929 as the main residence of the Ryan estate.

A fire in 1988 caused extensive damage, and the subsequent renovation added a Grill Room and lower-level locker room along with the Harbor Room on the main floor. That level also holds the Members' Dining Room, Crystal Room, Breakfast Room, Living Room, Solarium and the Main Bar, which once served as the Ryan family library, plus a kitchen at the west end. A winding staircase from the foyer leads to a sitting room, ladies' locker room, board room, business office and guest suites for members' overnight visitors, with views over the course and St. James Bay.
