Rye Golf Club's layout includes holes that reward position off the tee. One hole calls for a drive to the right center to open an angle for a long-iron approach, with a pond hidden from view along the left side and a green complex best approached from the right.

A par 5 climbs to the crest of a hill, where the remainder of the hole comes into view; the elevated green has a false front that can send short approaches rolling back down the slope. Among the short holes is a par 3 guarded by a front bunker, requiring a high shot into a severely sloped green where staying below the hole is important.
