Century Country Club
About Century Country Club
Century Country Club traces its origins to March 1898, when it formed informally before being incorporated on May 4 of that year. Accounts differ on the source of the name, with suggestions ranging from an early intention to cap membership at 100 to the club's founding near the turn of the century.
The club's first home was on leased land in the Throgs Neck section of New York City, a roughly 60-acre tract fronting Long Island Sound, where members laid out a nine-hole course. In 1904 Century relocated to a 100-acre property in Greenburgh, Westchester County, where a clubhouse was built alongside an 18-hole course and several tennis courts.

Membership grew steadily in the club's early decades, from 115 at the close of 1898 to 200 by 1902 and the then-limit of 250 in 1906. That ceiling was raised to 300 in 1915.
