About Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course
Montauk Downs dates to 1927, with the present layout redesigned in 1968 by Robert Trent Jones Sr., assisted by his son Rees Jones. The course became part of the New York state parks system when it was purchased by State Parks in 1980.
Set near the eastern tip of Long Island, the course is exposed to shifting breezes off the ocean and bay, and those changing wind currents can alter how it plays from one day to the next.
